TASK 2: Practice diagonal basting and slip basting stitch
1 Use a long thread on a large needle, often a Fig 2
contrasting color for easier removal. (Fig 1)

2 Insert a needle through the fabric to the front and
reverse side as shown in Fig 2 & 3 from no 1 ,2,3, etc
to complete the diagonal and slip basting stitch.
TASK 3: Practice the construction steps of diagonal basting
1 Prepare the fabric (Fig 1) • Each stitch should be long (1.5 to 3 inches)
depending on the fabric size.
• Lay the fabric flat on a table or frame.
• Smooth out wrinkles and align layers carefully. • Keep stitches slanted and parallel, forming
diagonal lines.
2 Thread the needle Fig 2
• Use a long thread with a small knot at one end.
• Use contrasting thread for visibility.

5 Repeat in rows (Fig 3)
• Work in rows across the fabric, spacing each row
around 2 to 3 inches apart.
• The pattern looks like a series of //// slashes across
